Watch TV, play computer games, or go outside to relax Here’s a good example.
Tim and Kerry Meek are both teachers. They live in the UK
with their two daughters: eleven-year-old Amy and nine-year-old Ella. Recently,
the Meek family has become
the focus of the whole country after they completed 100 different outdoor activities
in one year.
The Meek couple didn’t want their children to spend all their free time
in front of the TV and become “couch tomatoes”. So about one year ago, the
Meeks decided that watching TV and playing computer games were not permitted .
Instead, they set 100 tasks for the two girls to do outside. Although Mr. and
Mrs. Meek are not outdoor activity fans, they took part in all the activities
to encourage their daughters. It turns out that the two sisters really had a
good time joining activities.
Every holiday and weekend, whether it’s sunny, rainy or snowy, the Meeks’
would set off to try the activities on their list, including hiking, sailing,
climbing , skiing, and so on. The two little girls not only had a wonderful
time, but also learned a lot of skills from the activities. They were even able
to stand up in front of their school to give a talk for charity. “Our
friends spend a lot of their free time doing things which are harmful to their
health. Luckily, we’ve had the chance to experience something different.”
Amy and Ella also helped their parents to draw up a new list of challenges for
the next 12 months.

2014 Season Review
Here’s a quick review of the 2014 race season.
With 22 races in the book, here are the final stats:
22 – Races (Starting 20 A Features)
12 – Top 5 Finishes
18 – Top 10 Finishes
Finished 2nd in Track Points at Eagle Raceway
2014 Hard Charger of the Year at Eagle Raceway in IMCA/RaceSaver Sprint Division (gained 135 positions in A Features)

August 23, 2014 – Eagle Finale
The last season race for Eagle Raceway was your non-typical August evening, and the team hoped it would play into their favor. Doug started the night by moving from the back of the pack to finish 3rd in his heat race. That set him up to start mid-pack for the feature. Doug ran strong in the feature and was able to start cutting through the field about halfway through the event. A late caution came out and Doug figured out he didn’t have any brakes, so he decided to bring the car in an save it for the next weekend’s Sprint Super Nationals. For the regular season he finished in a solid second place in points.
August 16, 2014 – Eagle Raceway Weekly
As the Lovegrove Race team unloaded the Integrity Vinyl Graphics, Our Family Foods, Trackside Bar and Grill, Lovegrove’s Grocery, & Quik Dump Refuse Sprint Car, they looked to complete another great night of racing at Eagle Raceway. Doug made good use of his heat by finishing fourth to qualify for the A Feature, where he would line up in fifteenth.
With the drop of the A Feature green flag, move forward and forward he went.
Early in the event all of the competitors were evenly matched, but Doug was able to break into the top ten in the first six laps.
After a couple cautions mid-race he was able to break into the top five and looked forward.
With ten laps remaining, Doug entered a fierce battle for second position and finally broke into the runner-up position with two laps remaining. Due to the short number of laps remaining he wasn’t able to run down the leader, but finished with a solid second place finish for the next to last regular event for the 2014 season.

August 9, 2014 – Eagle Raceway Weekly
Another top 5 finish night for the Lovegrove Racing,
Integrity Vinyl Graphics, Our Family Foods, Trackside Bar and Grill, Lovegrove’s Grocery, & Quik Dump Refuse Sprint Car.
Doug was initially challenged when he couldn’t transfer from the heat, but made great use in running the B.
Starting five, he was able to finish 2nd, but these 12 laps were crucial knowledge for the A Feature coming soon.
For the A, Doug would line up in the 17th position, knowing he would be near the front at the end.
He drove the track well and broke into the top ten within the first eight laps.
He kept moving forward and finished in 4th.
August 2, 2014 – Eagle Weekly
A great night of racing!
Doug finished in third in the heat race to make the invert for the A Feature.
Starting in 10th Doug was patient waiting for the track to come to setup the crew put together, and the time came 10 laps in at the first caution.
On the restart, Doug started making the move forward and by the time there was seven laps remaining he was running forth.
After another caution, Doug quickly moved to third, then second and was on the hunt to bring home the win.
Mere fractions of a second was separating Doug and the front runner when another caution came out on the white flag lap.
On the restart, Doug looked to bring home the victory finishing third in tonight’s main event.

July 27, 2014 – Beatrice Speedway Special
We loaded up the Integrity Vinyl Graphics, Our Family Foods, Trackside Bar and Grill, Lovegrove’s Grocery, & Quik Dump Refuse Sprint Car for the short drive to Beatrice to participate in the special race in conjunction with the Gage County Fair at the Beatrice Speedway. It had been several years since we actually raced at the track and the team was looking forward to a great evening!
The routinely dry track didn’t disappoint the team and the car was ready.
In the heat race Doug drove to an uncontested 2nd place finish and drew a 5th place start for the A Feature. The A Feature set up was outstanding and with a narrow race surface, it was how well could you tiptoe through the corners and not fall out of the racing groove.
Doug expertly stayed in the groove chasing the leader and was able to reach the show position when the checkers flew.
Thanks to all our fans that drove to Beatrice to cheer us on and to our new fans from the Beatrice area as well.
We hope you had fun and we look forward to racing in Beatrice again.
July 26, 2014 – Eagle Raceway Weekly
With the 2014 race season turning towards the last few weekly races at Eagle Raceway, Doug looked to take the Integrity Vinyl Graphics, Our Family Foods, Trackside Bar and Grill, Lovegrove’s Grocery, & Quik Dump Refuse Sprint Car back to the front and close the gap in the track points race.
The heat race was slightly challenging and Doug wasn’t able to move forward to make the transfer to the A Feature.
He was scheduled to start in the second row of the B Feature, when a fuel system problem developed and he wasn’t able to start the event.
Due to the DNS, he finished in 14th in the B.
Hopefully we’ll get a little luck and gain back the needed points to make a run for the track championship. Come join us next week and cheer us on!
