与法国的比赛，约博完成了国家队百场里程碑，他也是尼日利亚队史上第一位上阵达到100场的国脚。可惜的是，这场值得纪念的比赛，约博没能和球队品位胜利。更让约博苦涩的是，他还在比赛中不慎自摆。赛后接受媒体采访时，约博宣布了退出国家队的决定，“对我来说，这是个喜忧参半的时刻。我想，是时候专注于我的家庭了，到了我退出国家队的时候了。”约博早在2001年就代表尼日利亚上演了处子秀。从2002年韩日世界杯开始，约博一直是尼日利亚队的中流砥柱，后防线上的定海神针。算上本届世界杯，他一共参加了3届世界杯决赛圈比赛，并且以队长身份率队拿到了去年的非洲国家杯冠军。
现效力于费内巴切的约博表示，“我们拿到了非洲国家杯冠军，我们来到巴西，我们并没有给祖国抹黑。老实说，我从未想到，我会随队出征巴西，因为受伤我错过了赛季尾声的最后6场比赛。但国家队给了我机会，很幸运我最终来到了巴西。总而言之，我已经倾尽全力了。”让约博感到放心的是，尼日利亚防线后继有人，奥梅鲁奥和奥博阿博纳就是他的接班人，“他们还会继续成长的。奥梅鲁奥本届世界杯表现很好，奥博阿博纳受伤了，但在非洲国家杯上他已经证明了自己的实力。他们会变得越来越好，经验会让他们更强大，他们中的一位会接过我的枪，并且成为领袖。”
