我们从穿鞋走向光脚？
弓箭发明之前，人类就开始穿鞋了。我们是怎么知道的？大约40000年以前，人类骨骼中的脚趾骨开始变小；只有穿鞋才会导致这样的变化。中趾受力变小，慢慢地就没别的趾头那么皮实了。考古学家相信，人类第一次穿鞋是为了御寒。慢慢地，气候炎热的地区有了凉鞋。不久，每种文明中都出现了凉鞋。埃及人用纸莎草叶子制造凉鞋，纸莎草叶也是埃及人造纸的原料。罗马人将敌人的脸画在鞋底，这样他们就可以“踩着敌人前进”了。19世纪以前，鞋子都是手工制作的，所以价格昂贵。在殖民时代，鞋子和鞋带都非常珍贵，有时甚至是世代相传。
要时尚还是要舒适？

中世纪的鞋子鞋头很尖，有的鞋尖部分就有15厘米长。这使得穿鞋行走很困难。身穿盔甲的骑士割掉了鞋尖部分，以便作战。
在法国大革命期间，有些富豪穿高跟鞋，红色的鞋跟甚至高达12厘米。这些鞋饰有珍珠和黄金，看上去金光闪闪，无比耀眼。
